Imagine spending a day in a charming coastal town, indulging in delicious wood-oven pizza and basking in the warm sun while listening to the soothing sound of waves crashing onto the shore. That's exactly what I experienced during my visit to Figueira da Foz last week.
Figueira da Foz, located on the eastern shore of the Atlantic Ocean, is a hidden gem that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and culinary delights. As I arrived in this picturesque town, I couldn't help but be captivated by its charm.
One of the highlights of my day was indulging in wood-oven pizza, something I am unable to find in my tiny village of Vila Franca da Beira. The aroma of freshly baked dough and melted cheese wafted through the air as I entered a cozy pizzeria. The crust was perfectly crispy, and the toppings were a delightful combination of flavors. Coupled with a glass of wine, it was supremely satisfying, making it clear why this place was a local favorite.
After satisfying my taste buds, I decided to explore the renowned Praia da Claridade. The beach stretched out before me, with its golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Even though it was early February, the sun was shining brightly, and the temperature was a comfortable 70 degrees. It was the perfect weather for a leisurely stroll along the shore.
Walking on the warm sand, I felt a sense of tranquility as the waves gently teased at my feet. The rhythmic sound of the ocean provided a soothing soundtrack to my day. I couldn't resist taking off my shoes and feeling the cold water against my skin as I waded into the ocean.
As I explored the beach, I noticed teenagers trying to dig to China, and a fisherman casting for his dinner. Though there weren't many beachgoers, the peaceful atmosphere filled the air with laughter and happiness, creating a sense of community and joy.
Figueira da Foz is not just a destination for beach lovers; it also offers a range of other activities. From water sports such as surfing and paddleboarding to exploring the nearby Serra da Boa Viagem mountain range, there is something for everyone. I did not do any of these, preferring to simply enjoy the vibe.
As the day drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the experience Figueira da Foz had provided me. It was a day filled with delicious food, beautiful scenery, and a sense of relaxation that can only come from being by the ocean. As a foodie and nature lover seeking a day of relaxation, this charming coastal town had it all.
I am leaving next week to experience Carnaval in Loulé, Portugal from the 11th through the 13th of February. The Carnival of Loulé in the Algarve region is one of the municipality's most popular and symbolic events. It is a well-loved parade and is said to be the oldest in the country! Each night there is a dance party that starts at 10 pm. Maybe I'll learn a little Samba. In addition, I plan to visit Faro and Lagos with their stunning beaches and coastlines. Wish me luck!
